Prince Rupert Terminal
The Prince Rupert LPG export terminal is located on Watson Island, British Columbia. The project is best viewed as a small-scale rail terminal, moving LPG from rail cars to 'handysize' ships destined for international markets. There is no on-site processing or refrigeration, and smaller volumes for storage and movement require a smaller footprint relative to other energy facilities proposed on the west coast.
The approximately 25,000 barrels per day project will primarily source propane from our Redwater Complex. All site construction activities have restarted since being temporarily halted in March, April and May as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Facility piping and on-site sphere construction, as well as marine and electrical work continue to progress to completion. The project has an expected in-service date in the first quarter of 2021.

What is LPG?
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is derived from the family of light hydrocarbons, called natural gas liquids (NGL). Recognized for its low environmental impact, propane is one of the cleanest and most versatile fuels in existence. At normal atmospheric pressure and temperatures above minus 42 degrees Celsius, propane is a non-toxic colourless and odourless gas. It becomes a liquid when cooled and pressurized. Propane is stored and transported as a liquid and doesn’t become a gas until it is used.
Common uses include household heating, cooking, barbeques and power generation.
