Pembina responds to incident on Northern Pipeline System
Pembina responds to incident on Northern Pipeline System

Calgary, Alberta, January 20, 2023 – Pembina Pipeline Corporation responded to a release of natural gas liquids (NGL) on our Northern Pipeline System approximately 30 kilometres east of Valleyview, Alberta on January 18, 2023. The pipeline was quickly isolated, roadblocks were put in place, and residents in the immediate area were evacuated to ensure public safety while the situation was being managed. No injuries have been reported.

We estimate that approximately 4600 m3 of NGL vapour was released. Our first priority is always the safety of our neighbours, employees and contractors. Extensive air monitoring and coordination with the Alberta Energy Regulator determined that the area was safe for residents to return home as of January 19, 2023.

Pembina regrets the inconvenience this incident has caused people in the area. We will continue to offer any assistance that may be required. Pembina is assessing potential environmental impacts of the release and will develop and undertake appropriate remediation activities. The Northern line has been temporarily suspended, and all work is being completed in compliance with regulatory requirements.  The cause of the release is being investigated.
