Pembina joins KidSport Alberta with a $450,000 investment
A key component of this partnership is the development of the Pembina Indigenous KidSport Fund, which will continue KidSport Alberta’s work with Indigenous communities across the province. The creation of a specific fund within KidSport means more kids in Indigenous communities will experience the lifelong benefits of organized sport. Funds will also be distributed to KidSport chapters in communities across Alberta, including:
- KidSport Calgary & Area
- KidSport Medicine Hat
- KidSport Edmonton
- KidSport Pincher Creek
- KidSport Fairview
- KidSport Ponoka
- KidSport Fort Saskatchewan
- KidSport Red Deer
- KidSport Grande Cache

Allan Charlesworth, Vice President of Technical Services and a lifelong champion of the importance of sport, explains, “At Pembina, we invest in programs that help build healthier communities. Speaking from personal experience, I know that sports can play an important role in a kid’s life, impacting everything from physical and mental health to relationships and confidence. I’m proud that Pembina has stepped up to the plate with KidSport to help make that benefit a reality for even more youth across our province.”
KidSport is a national non-profit organization that helps to remove the financial barriers that prevent youth from participating in organized sport. KidSport Alberta comprises 37 locally organized community chapters and the KidSport Alberta Provincial Fund, which provides support for families in communities that do not have a local chapter. In 2018, local KidSport chapters and the KidSport Alberta Provincial Fund assisted 13,864 kids from qualified families into sport by funding $3.25 million in sport registration fees.
“The commitment made today by Pembina will change the lives of kids in communities across Alberta by giving them the opportunity to play sport,” says Greg Ingalls, the Executive Director of KidSport Alberta. “The life skills and healthy habits learned through sport will enhance their lives and teach them devices that they will use into their adult years.
