Greenlight Electricity Centre
Greenlight Electricity Centre is a proposed multi-phased natural gas-fired combined cycle power generation facility with a capacity of up to approximately 1,800 megawatts (MW), designed to provide dedicated, behind-the-meter power to data centre customers in Alberta.
A partnership between Pembina Pipeline Corporation and Kineticor, an OPTrust portfolio company, the facility will leverage modern, high-efficiency industrial turbines fuelled by natural gas and will capture waste heat to generate additional electricity via a steam turbine.
In addition to supporting data centre industry power needs, Greenlight Electricity Centre will create incremental new demand for natural gas, supporting higher production of natural gas and associated natural gas liquids from Western Canada.
Location
The facility will be located in Sturgeon County, Alberta, in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, northeast of Edmonton.
